چکیده

The broadcast-based data dissemination in wireless environments poses new challenging issues on data consistency of transaction processing. In this paper, we first adapt the optimistic concurrency control with forward validation to the broadcast environments. The adapted protocol gives autonomy between the mobile clients and the server such that the mobile clients can read consistent data off the air without contacting the server. However, it suffers from excessive transaction restart that affects the timeliness of mobile transactions. Therefore, we propose a new protocol based on timestamp ordering that can show significant performance improvement. The timestamp ordering technique enjoys a number of benefits from flexible adjustment of serialization order by exploiting the semantics of readonly transactions, which comprise most of the existing applications. The simulation results confirmed that the proposed protocol could be an efficient and effective approach to transaction processing in real-time broadcast environments for meeting transaction deadlines.

On Transaction Processing with Partial Validation and Timestamp Ordering in Mobile Broadcast Environments

Conventional concurrency control protocols are inapplicable in mobile broadcast environments due to a number of constraints of wireless communications. Previous studies are focused on efficient processing of read-only transactions at the mobile clients, neglecting update transactions. In this paper, we design a new protocol for processing both read-only and update mobile transactions. The proto...

A Concurrency Control for Transactional Mobile Agents

Mobile agents are autonomous objects that can migrate from one host to another within a computer network. Concurrent execution of multiple mobile agents requires a concurrency control for data consistency. Some mobile agent applications, such as information retrieval, do not need a concurrency control, but most applications, for example workflow and electronic commerce, require such a control o...

Real-Time Transaction Scheduling in Database Systems

A database system supporting a real-time application, which can be calledà real-time database system (RTDBS)', has to provide real-time information to the executing transactions. Each RTDB transaction is associated with a timing constraint, usually in the form of a deadline. EEcient resource scheduling algorithms and concurrency control protocols are required to schedule the transactions so as ...

A Global Timestamp-based Scalable Framework for Distributed Virtual Environments

As the complexity of systems and environments increases, the system developers face difficulties in building distribute virtual environment (DVE) systems. Primary challenges that have to be addressed by these developers are compensating network latency jitters, maintaining system-wide data consistency, enabling fair resource sharing and interaction between the users, and providing scalability. ...

Design and analysis of a secure two-phase locking protocol

In addition to maintaining consistency of the database, secure concurrency control algorithms must be free from covert channels arising due to data conflicts between transactions. The existing secure concurrency control approaches are unfair to transactions at higher access classes. In this paper, a secure two-phase locking protocol is presented, which is correct and free from covert channels. ...
